Why we honor our cats...
VAS brings with it a tremendous and
unique burden on the cat owner. In the course of being a good owner of
our cats, we made sure that we got them vaccinated. Most of us never
asked our vet any questions, nor was any unsolicited information about the
vaccines provided or offered to us. Some of us had our cats taken from our
presence while their shots were given. In doing what we believed to be
in the best interest of the health of our cats, we unknowingly allowed a
medical procedure that, in all likelihood, either caused or contributed to our
cats cancer.
It wasn't until after our cats were
diagnosed with this disease that we began our search for information.
And in the course of our search, we discovered that this cancer has been
recognized since 1991. We discovered that "scruff shots" are no longer a
recommended place to give a shot. We discovered that many vaccines
contain an additive that is a known carcinogen. We discovered that the
veterinary community has been discussing this cancer for over 10 years with
hardly a word of warning to us - the general public - the consumers of
veterinary services.
It is difficult to explain or
understand how overwhelming it is when a pet you love is diagnosed with
a cancer that was likely related to your attempts to keep him or her healthy
and well. Upon learning of this diagnosis, hundreds of us went to the
internet and found
The VAS Support Group. This group is
made up of hundreds of people who know exactly how you feel. Here you
will find the support,
understanding, encouragement and the information that you crave.

And finally, one cannot explain or describe our
passionate need to educate cat owners so that they might be able to know what we
did not know. We want people to know that they have choices. We want
people to know that vaccinations are medical procedures and demand informed
consent and an explanation of risks and benefits prior to administration.
The web sites below were all created
by people who are passionate about educating you. These are their
personal stories.
The information contained on this website is intended for general
reference purposes only and is not a substitute for professional
veterinary advice. Veterinary medical information and
treatment standards change rapidly and while we make efforts to
obtain the most reliable, up-to-date information, some information
may be out of date or even unreliable. This information should
not be used to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease without
the supervision of a licensed veterinarian. Always seek the
advice of your veterinarian or other qualified professional.
